Clay Facial Masks – Three Ways

Preparing clay facial masks for long-term storage can be a real challenge. Adding liquids to these formulations makes them fragile and often forces artisans to incorporate preservatives or alter their recipes. One alternative to this tricky situation is to simple formulate your facial masks without liquid!

Dry powdered facials are simple to make, prime for customization, and best of all, totally shelf-stable. Start with a base of Cosmetic Clay, then add Arrowroot Powder and a targeted blend of Essential Oil to create a quick and easy facial mask formula to benefit any skin type.

Simple Clay Facials Three Ways

These three recipes are infused with Essential Oil blends meant to soothe, balance, and nourish skin. We used three different types of Cosmetic Clay in a range of aggressiveness and absorbency. Be sure to match your Clays to the targeted skin type when formulating your own recipes. Gentle Clays, like Kaolin and Rose, are perfect for dry or sensitive skin. Medium strength Clays, such as Sea Clay, work for a wide range of skin types. Stronger Clays, such as Bentonite, are best used with oily skin types.

Our simple clay facials can be customized even further by pairing them with a specialty wetting agent. While plain water will do just fine, something more interesting, like Aloe Vera Gel, Hydrosol, or fresh yogurt, can add extra beneficial properties to the mix. Since these ingredients aren’t added until the mask is being used, formulators don’t have to worry about their fragility. This also offers customers and estheticians the chance to target each face individually using one base product.
